Shared Hosting

April 22, 2012 in Blog by Brittney Harmon  |  Comments Off on Shared Hosting

Shares hosting is the most common web hosting service, but what is shared hosting? Let’s use a house as an analogy. The house is a server and each client website is a resident. Each resident has his own room, but shared the utilities such as, water, gas, electric, and so on. The same is for each shared hosting client. Each client website has its own “room”, but also shared the same “utilities”, power, internet access, RAM (memory), and so on.  With shared hosting, like living in a house with multiple residents, while one resident is using all of the water pressure in the shower it makes it difficult to wash clothes or water the lawn. So, if one client website is using all of the bandwidth accessing another client website on the same server can become difficult. This is a common practice in many web hosting companies, but Lola Hosting uses a different technique, which eliminates this difficulty by using unique technology to isolate each client website to use only a specific amount of resources.

What is web hosting?

Web hosting is an internet service which allows individuals and organizations to make their website accessible via the World Wide Web.

Web hosts are companies such as, Lola Hosting, that provide space on a server owned or leased for use by clients, as well as providing Internet connectivity, typically in a data center.

There are my types of web hosting services. The most common is shared hosting. Shared hosting is when many client websites share one server, but uses the same resources.

Many clients do not wish to share resources with other clients so a hosting company “rents” a server to the client which is called dedicated hosting.

If a client does not have the resources to enable their website properly a hosting company may have a service to rack and provide resources to the server which is called co-location.

A web hosting service which is more commonly used by larger organizations is VPN/VPS.A web hosting company can create a “time-share” with our Virtual Private Server (VPS) service.

A web service company can connect your home office to other regional offices with our Virtual Private Networking (VPN) service.
